Plunging into the magical world of folktales, we discovered the Galta ji temple! A true hidden gem! So! After discovering the shrine situated amidst the Aravalli ranges of Rajasthan, we decided to visit the pre-historic site! P.S. This temple is called the "Monkey temple!"

Making it a short trip, (Cuz Jaipur has been a much explored site already), we reached Galta Ji, famous among global travellers. Taking the local bus from Jaipur (which we were lucky enough to get) we reached the temple, admiring the beautiful Sisodia Gardens along the way.

A gleaming gem to the east of Jaipur, Galta ji is located 10 kms away from the city. The beautiful structure is wedged between two hills. Inside, the temple was full of pilgrims who had come for the sacred bath which is said to purge an individual of their sins. *Interesting*

This place is said to be the abode of Saint Gailav who spent his life here, meditating and doing tapasya. Walking in, there were so many different faces, from so many different ethnicities, for so many different reasons who stood there. It was a treat to the eyes.

    The awestrucking architecture.
The complex of Galta ji houses many temples, with it's main temple built in pink sandstone. Amidst low hills, this magnificent temple is structured to look more like a palace! P.S. The temple is said to be blessed with pure water which never runs out & purges you of your sins!

It is, indeed, amazing to watch people from other countries being driven to ours with love for our festivals and rituals. Walking up to the top of the hill, I found these beautiful women playing, giggling, bathing and singing with each other, equally warm for Laura. :') *Proud*

The beautiful carvings. The temple amidst the hills.
With heart full of pride for being an Indian, we treaded ahead to this beautiful structure which is the Hanuman temple. And good God! There were so many monkeys there! (Even though you can't see many in the picture.) It scares you, okay. But it's not difficult to overcome it. :P

So, this is mandatory monkey picture of the monkey temple! Cute, isn't he? No matter how cute, I still maintained my distance as I saw a monkey biting my brother as a child. Poor kid. *Sigh* But we got the monkeys their favourite food which made me happy! :D *Yayy*

    The panoramic view.
Moving on. :P There were religious hymns and chants going on which combined with the natural setting, provided a very peaceful ambience. There are seven holy kunds of the magical holy water which are said to be originating from the Gaumukh (a rock shaped like a cow's head!)

Oh! And I forgot to tell, we went there for the occasion of Makar Sakranti, which is said to be the most celebrated time of all here. The most extraordinary of it all is the sunset, when you witness a large family of monkeys flocking towards the temple tank, for a bath. *Kooky*

It is said that this legendary temple was built in the 18th century. About this place, it is eminent for its monkeys. Going by the fact, there are two species of monkeys here - rhesus macaque and the gray langurs. P.S. They don't bother you, if you don't bother them. :P

The carvings and paintings were simply exceptional. The numerous pavilions with rounded roofs, carved pillars and painted walls of the temple were a great escape for the archaeology lovers. The temples of Lord Krishna, Lord Rama, and Lord Hanuman looked stunning. *Rare beauty*
