Go for the western group first.
One of my friends had visited Khajuraho earlier and had recommended me to definitely have this place on my bucket list.I won't deny that I too was carried away with the mainstream portrayal of Khajuraho. What a fool I was. I wanted to not be a noob and see the place for myself.

It has both Hindu & Jain temples.
Rightfully so. The history dates back to the era of the Chandala Dynasty, who were believed to be lovers of art. Legend says how the Moon God got captivated by a Princess's(Not Padmavati haha :3) beauty & had given their son the boon to be a valiant ruler. 85 temples.25 remaining.

Kandariya Mahadev Temple. In the western part of the temples.
It's not that I dislike Guides.I'm sure they know far more about their places than anyone else. But what I like is wandering in the unknown with a guide book.Just my kinda thing. The temples are made of sandstone & cement or mortar had not been used.Architecture amazes me in ways.

Sculptures on the walls around.Kandariya Mahadev Temple.
I believe India to have one of the richest cultures.Be it art, literature or sex for that matter. Most of us have the habit of making a smug face whenever a topic involving Kamasutra comes up. I'm not a master in art but I know how to appreciate it.This was pure Art.

Chaturbhuj Temple. The only temple without eroticism.
This entire part was my favorite. This is where I was stunned by the brilliance of the bygone era.Everything but the sculpture of Vishnu was dark inside. The sunlight was reflected right at it until the sunset. I visited this temple twice & every single time I was spellbound.

    Varaha Temple.
Amongst many temples in the complex, this did strike a cord with me. Varaha, being the third avatar of Lord Vishnu, was the main highlight of this modest temple. The minute carvings on the body manifested the mastery of the craftsmen back then.

Lalguan Mahadeva TempleMonument of National importance. Made of Granite.
This temple has almost reached its deathbed. This made me wonder how each monument has an expiry date. Some get plundered,Some get tarnished due to Nature and some..survive only to fall again one day or the other.

    Lakshmi Temple.
Every temple, every corner I came across,I couldn't help but think about the unknown sculptors who had made a King's dream come true. If only the Stones could speak. If only. The moment I looked at this wall, I remembered the horrendous source codes I have to deal with. Damn.

    Lakshmana Temple.
There was considerable amount of eroticism in the entire temple complex but what I realized was,it wasn't just about that.It was about the craftsmanship that we don't find anymore, the mystic history that surrounds this place & the inquisitive nature of both human mind & body.

Almost all the temples in the complex have intricate details and certain characteristics features of Nagara architecture. 90% of the sculptures depicted the common life of people,be it courtisans or scholars back then.Has one ever wondered why don't we make such temples anymore?

It was a calm afternoon. It was one of those days when I could completely let myself immerse in a world, where I could appreciate everything around me. Foreigners had flooded the place to appreciate the architecture & the locals had a proud grin on their places. It felt beautiful.

Take a stroll by yourself :)
I loved how the place was never too crowded. The King did do a good job building such a huge complex. I come from a state, where temples & markets are overloaded. I had been walking all over the compound & looking things from inside out did give me a new perspective about things.

Something about the place kept drawing me in.It felt mythical, sensous and somehow I managed to not get diverted by the mass public opinion.I asked one of the locals about the temple,to which she replied: those who don't get carried away, achieve divinity when they see the temple.

I am a person who loves her bed & pillow. So if I'm spending an entire day at a place then I consider it unforgettable for me. Khajuraho was one of those. The light and the sound show did leave me asking for more. Tbh,I was more interested to see the stunning backdrop. How elegant.

    Definitely try your favorite food.
"Food with a view" is always the best part of my trips. This place was the oldest restaurants around there. I stumbled upon there by luck & I thanked all the Gods from the Khajuraho temples! Everything on the menu was pretty lipsmacking!
