Nasik in Maharashtra is known as the Wine Capital of India with over 50 wineries in the city. The most famous of these is Sula Vineyards, and the last time I was in Nasik I made sure to make time in my itinerary for a visit here!

    Open countryside feel of campus
Located near other vineyards as well, Sula Wines was a short drive from where I was staying. The approach to the main building is through rows and rows of grapevines stretching in both directions. The wine tasting center and restaurant are at the heart of this. I was so excited!

We reached the main building and purchased our passes for a wine tour and tasting session. While waiting, I climbed up to the first level terrace to get a better view of the whole orchard. What a beautiful campus!

As there was still an hour for our tour to start, we took a stroll around the premises, enjoying time away from the city! There were several fun as well as informative installations scattered around the whole campus 😊

There was a fun installation of wine storage barrells in the front of the main building. We had gone on a Sunday evening, so the place was buzzing with energy and these art pieces were hotspots for photo opportunities!

    Fun colourful ambience!
The main lobby had a beautiful installation using Sula wine bottles! Being the accident prone person that I am, I made sure to keep a safe distance from this somewhat delicate piece of art 😉

The restaurant on the first floor had excellent music playing, fragrances of good food were floating around, glasses were clinking, wine was was bubbling, and spirits were high! I couldn't wait to start the tour!

The campus really was beautiful! Full of lush greenery, gardens and trees, it was like an oasis in the city. There was a large amphitheatre area and gathering space at the back which is used for the famous Sulafest!

Finally the much awaited moment had arrived! It was time for the wine tour and tasting. Being a complete novice in terms of wine knowledge, I was looking forward to learning the various processes involved.

The tour began with a history of Sula wines and wine making around the world. He then talked about different sorts of grapes, and the processes involved in making red and white wine and rosae. We were given a tour of the cold storage room as well!

    Being inside a wine cellar!
Next, we were taken to the wine cellar, where there were rows and rows of wooden barrels stacked. These were special oak wood barrels, with wine being stored in them for years! The older the wine, the better.

Now, with the introductory tour done, it was time for wine tasting! We were each given a glass and taught the right way to hold it. The steps of the wine tasting process were explained to us, and finally the wines were brought out!

One by one, various white and red wines were brought out and the tasting began! In between each wine, we were given plain crackers to clear our pallette. The happiness levels rose with every passing glass of wine 😉 In all, we got to taste six wines! What a fun evening 😊

    Dining at the Sula Restaurant
We ended the lovely evening by making a visit to the wine and gift shop. Now close to dinner time, we wined and dined at the Sula Restaurant, and clinked our glasses to an evening well spent! 🍷🍷🍷
