Our trip to Srirangapatna was when we had to visit Mysore due to some work and thought of extending it for a day. We spent a whole day sightseeing. We headed to the Ranganathaswamy Temple first which dominates the town. My mom told me that the town takes it name from this temple.

As we parked our car and were entering the temple, a procession was going on. They were chanting 'stotras'. A local told us that the temple's architecture is very famous because it is a blend of Hoysala and Vijayanagara architectures.

We then went to Tipu sultan's summer palace which is around 5 kms from the temple. It is a major tourist attraction in the town. We went around reading the information that was written on the stone slabs.

The palace also has a museum inside. We got to know that the palace was made with teakwood in Indo-saracenic style and the pillars, walls, canopies are all graced with murals. We even saw sketches, drawings and paintings with block prints and Tipu Sultan's clothes.

Our last destination for the day was Brindavan gardens. The garden was designed by Sir Mirza Ismail, the Diwan of Mysore and is based on Shalimar gardens of Kashmir in the Mughal style. After some research, I got to know that Brindavan gardens is spread over an area of 150 acres.

Brindavan gardens is known for its musical and dancing fountain which is also the main attraction. We wanted to stay back and watch it but couldn't because we had to head back to Bengaluru. Probably will see it when I next visit Mysore! :)
