We stayed at the Pullman hotel in Zhangjiajie, located in the Wulingyuan district. It's roughly a 90 minute drive from the airport, however you can take the bus too. Even though communication was an issue, our stay was extremely comfortable.

The evening before our visit to the famed Avatar pillars, it rained a lot. I was worried it might ruin the trip, but it definitely helped with the weather.

After taking a bus to the Tianzi area, we grabbed our tickets for the cable car to take us up to the Avatar Mountains. The view is breath taking! The entire scenery was shrouded with fog, giving it an added mystique

The view that welcome us when we got off the cable car. It's so lush and green all around, and the fact that it rained just made the entire scenery even prettier.

There's even a McDonald's here, in case you get hungry and aren't really looking for local Hunanese food. But if you are one for spicy food I would definitely recommend trying the local food.

The entire park is dotted with these mischevious yet adorable monkeys. As cute as they might be, I would recommend you don't carry food in your hands unless you want to get attacked by them!

To get to the mountains, we had to take the Bailong Elevator, a 1000ft long glass elevator that overlooks the scenic national park and gave us the most breath taking view of the Avatar Mountains.

The glass bridge, built between two cliffs, is almost scary to step on, because the bottom is made of glass and makes you feel like you're stepping on air. But it's right in the middle of all the scenery and gave us the perfect photo opportunity to capture the sandstone cliffs.

We hiked for a while down this path to get to the bus stop which would take us to the Yuanjiajie scenic area.

Once we got to the Yuanjiajie scenic area, we were told that the pillar of the southern sky is a must visit. Apparently this particular pillar inspired the floating mountains of James Cameron's sci fi hit Avatar. So after a quick break, we hiked there, to be greeted by this view

Here, we also indulged in some Hunan cuisine, famous for its spicy fare. I had the Hunan laksa, and while I will say my spice tolerance is pretty high, this dish tested that. Nonetheless it was extremely delicious, and I would recommend everyone to try the local food

After spending the entire day at the park, it was time to head back. We once again took the cable car down to the bus station. Saying goodbye to the floating mountains and the mist. It was a day well spent and I just didn't want to leave.
