    Netherlands
    Purchase 12hr travel pass.
Going dutch had always been a part of my to-do list but so were other countries.Hopping from one country to another had made me realize how much I was missing out by not staying in a single country for long. Thus when my sister shifted to Holland for a year & I followed her. :')
  • Keukenhof
    Keukenhof
Highlight of Amsterdam. Peak time : April to Mid May.
On landing in Amsterdam,my sister urged me to get ready as soon as possible because she wanted me to see "The Highlight" of Amsterdam. It was almost time for me to see the Tulips again that I had seen back in my 2 days visit to Amsterdam. But this time, the scene was different.:)
  • Keukenhof
    Keukenhof
    Tulips everywhere. :')
As I was walking around,my sister told me how she'd be gone away for a few days, thanks to her urgent project. That made a tad bit angry.Ok.A lot angry. I made her run about among the Tulips. What was I even thinking?! She seemed to enjoy it & seeing her such made me pretty happy.

Rent a cycle or walk around.
If my brother & I have been addicted to movies,my sister & I have been avid readers with her having recommended me Anne Frank's novel. This was taken in her lane. Walking around or just riding a bicycle is probably the best way to get around Amsterdam. Beauty on foot or wheels.:)
  • Anne Frank House
    Anne Frank House
    Photography isn't allowed inside.
With her home being turned into a museum, there always seemed to be a long queue in which one has to stand in before getting a glimpse of the real, her home where she had lived during the Nazi rule. That has been properly maintained & seems to contain a great deal of memories.
  • De Wallen
    De Wallen
Red Light District. Do not wander off into empty lanes.Do not click photographs.
Back in 2000 when prostitution became legal in Amsterdam, the industry flourished but with rules & regulations that are to be admired. My sister called some of her friends & we wandered on the main lane. Is it the chief attraction in Amsterdam? Absolutely not. Is it cool? Yes.
  • De Wallen
    De Wallen
    Pole Dance shows.
I don't smoke,so the infamous "coffee shops" were definitely off my list. But I didn't want to miss the other famous part of the Street that had some amazing pole-dancing shows. The entire evening was pretty weird for me but this part turned out to be the best. The Talent!! :D
  • Rijksmuseum
    Rijksmuseum
The Museum Square. 8K objects of Art & Gallery.
Amsterdam has its own square meant entirely for museums, this in itself proves how the art & culture still prevails in the land of the Dutch. But the first thing I did was, stand on the top of that 't' in "I Amsterdam" & pose for a photo that would go in the trademarks' section.:>
  • Rijksmuseum
    Rijksmuseum
Art Installations were filled in various rooms of the humongous museum & I was walking around alone, reading whatever the installations were referring to & trying to decipher the inspiration that was taken up to get on with something that nobody else had earlier thought of. :')
  • Rijksmuseum
    Rijksmuseum
    Sitting in the museum. :')
Trying to decipher the art is pretty exciting but seeing the people appreciate the art is peaceful. Maybe because I have less knowledge about all the art & stuff but even just sitting there & seeing the people appreciate something so beautiful is worth it. :')
  • Art Square Amsterdam
    Art Square Amsterdam
    Street Music. :')
With all the museums being located in one square,I had the luxury of walking all by myself from one museum to another & on doing that,I came across that side of Amsterdam that's pretty prevalent throughout Europe & is probably one of the reasons why I love this continent. :')
  • Van Gogh Museum
    Van Gogh Museum
    Most Visited Museum in Holland.
It had overtaken Rijksmuseum when I was visiting Holland & it was prominently due to the sheer popularity of the man himself : Van Gogh. The continuous display of Van Gogh's art on the screen throughout the museum, gave a clear glance at the work of the Artist. Pretty amazing.
  • Museum of Prostitution - Red Light Secrets
Museum of Prostitution - Red Light Secrets
Prostitution, being a huge part of Netherlands, has it's own museum that shows it's dark history. But what struck me most was this laser clip where one can see how the onlookers look at the prostitutes standing behind the glass windows. It did affect me for quite some time there.

    Book the tickets before going.
I had the option of going either to Madame Tussauds or Heineken. I went for the world-famous beer brewing experience instead of the wax figures. :> Priorities. Walking through the entrance, we were treated with visual graphics of the brewing process on both the sides. Game on.

The staff gave us a tour of the entire "museum-but-not-really" place & it was pretty cool.I mean, brewing anything is really awesome. The number of minute steps that go into it are quite detailed in themselves. Landed a glass of beer at the end & we all drank it at once. Unity.:D
  • Begijnhof
    Begijnhof
Oldest Courtyard in Amsterdam. Opens at 9am & Closes at 5pm
While I was gently sipping my coffee & watching the crowd fill the streets & canal of Amsterdam,I asked the waiter if there was any quiet place within the city.He recommended the oldest courtyard in Amsterdam. I spent a few moments here, appreciating the silence amongst the noise.
  • Giethoorn
    Giethoorn
Early morning train to Steenwijk.Be careful with connection timings
Venice of Netherlands? Nay. It had it's very own flavor that included lush green yards, amazing houses on both the sides, lovely restaurants & a boat ride. I was joined by an English girl on my boat ride who was a pretty cool companion.I later bragged about her to my sister.Ha!
  • Zaanse Schans
    Zaanse Schans
The Panaroma. 30 mins from Amsterdam. Scheduled buses are available.
This heaven was my favorite in Netherlands. The Lush green yards, grazing cattle & sheep, galloping horses & beautiful windmills, all running at once. There was nothing about the place that I had not liked at the first glance. Had Cinderella been dutch, this would've her home.:')
  • Zaanse Schans
    Zaanse Schans
Music on the street changes as the landscape changes. The amount of tourists sparsely spread here & there did give me an idea that this place was pretty famous. It felt totally different from the highly energetic city of Amsterdam. Holland's countryside indeed beautiful. :')

Klomp : Netherland's shoes. Shoe making process' demonstration.
Visiting this shoe-making place was more a coincidence than a planned itinerary.I had seen some pair of shoes but in their giant forms, across the fields in Zanse Schans. On asking the locals, they told me that they were Netherland's 'national shoes' & recommended this place. :D
  • Zaanse Schans

    Try the cheese.
Yep. Tasting cheese is a thing & it was definitely my first time trying them out one after the other. The employees were so kind & generous. They explained all about the different flavors & offered enough samples. Some of them tasted delicious while some were..meh..:D
  • Volendam
    Volendam
    Fishing Village.
This place wasn't on my list & I had already ticked off quite a few places off my sister's list. So,she decided to travel to this place for us. It was quite normal but that's what was so amazing about it.I didn't have to look for stuff to do.We just roamed about in the market. :')
  • Volendam
    Volendam
    FISH & CHIPS.
Roaming around in the small town gave us some serious hunger pangs,we walked into a restaurant & ordered what one must order when one is in a fishing town,Fish & Chips. It was probably one of the best I had in years. It is probably the best fishing village I have seen on my tripS
  • Utrecht
    Utrecht
1hr from Amsterdam by train. Eurail Benelux pass can be used. Cobbled streets.
Now that my sister & I were together,I was not 'allowed' to be lazy anymore. As soon as the sun rose up, we went for an early morning walk around the town that seemed like a medieval version of Amsterdam & medieval is so much better..Always. Cobbled streets, canals & houses..wow.:)
  • The Hague
    The Hague
    Historically Significant Monuments.
Our last stop of the tour was concerned with the city that used to fill the pages of our history book,Hague. With treaties being signed & conference being conducted, the city held a certain level of importance in my mind. Be it the Peace Palace itself or Binnenhof & Ridderzaal.
  • Madurodam
    Madurodam
    The Miniature Museum.
I have an undying love for miniatures.Yep.I love being Gulliver in the land of the minions. There were legos being used as people.I came across all those places of the country yet again & recalled the moments. Like that,I bid farewell to Netherlands or Holland as if we know it
