Trekking only takes you forward ! Can't stop the feeling.
Its funny how, once you start trekking, you cant seem to stop at one point and always keep pushing yourself to go further. Once I experienced the lush green mad beauty of Ranipuram, I set my mind to go on more such treks and well, I guess I succeeded !

The Western Ghats stretch ! Mighty mountains of the south !
High hills & deep valleys surrounded by mountain grasslands carpeted in fifty shades of green; Western Ghats are a mountain range known for its rich & unique assemblage of flora & fauna that extends for 1600km running parallel to the west coast of India !

    Brewing in nature. Coffee plantations.
To trek these mountain ranges was unforgettable and out-of-my-mind thrilling because everywhere that I looked, as far as the eye could see, I was covered, surrounded and encapsulated entirely by the vibrant expanse of them; which was unlike any trek I had been on before.

An ecological sphere. Preservation and conservation.
Karnataka's pride & favourite trekking peak, Mullayanagiri has been internationally recognised as a region of immense global importance for the conservation of biological diversity; the Western Ghats have 27% of India’s flowering plants & an incredible array of endemic wildlife.

Fun facts ! Meditation and mountains.
The Mullayanagiri trek derives its name from the tomb of Saint Mulappa Swamy, which is located at the peak. The saint is believed to have meditated in the caves surrounding this hill. This particular structure reminded me of the power of meditation that the mountains hold.

    The roads not travelled.
The trek started from the Sarpadhari bus stop, which was connected to Chikmagalur by road, so we travelled that distance to reach the bust stop quite early. The 3km-long steep trek took us around 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. The journey up until the trek was an amazing one itself.

Entrance for the summit. The Hills have Beauty !
The entrance to this haven looks like the green gates to heaven ! We could see the summit tauntingly inviting us in to the highest point of the peak and I was really excited to reach the top as soon as I could. There were a lot of groups of friends & families from local areas.

Beautiful furred dog ! Creatures of the wild !
On my way, I made some new friends. This beautiful dog followed me around until he 'accidentally' lost me to the heights of the peak. Honestly, I truly judge a place by the way it treats their wild animals & the well fed & cared for dogs in this area was a delightful picture.

Reaching the top, & looking down at all this beauty, I was completely mystified at how extraordinarily different things can seem from a higher level of perception. Aside from a few steep ascents, the Mullayanagiri Trek was fairly easy to do, and left a soaring impact on my soul.

Lord Shiva: God of the hills. Local tribal beliefs and faith. Shiva Temple at the top.
Up above the peak, nestling between all that beauty and peace, is a famous Shiva Temple which is considered one of he main highlights of his mountain range and is a local favourite among people that have put forth their faith and hope in Lord Shiva and his teachings !

Rediscovering faith. Stepping inside Shiva's lair.
I have many a times found myself rediscovering my faith in my own religion or in the idea of a God that watches over us, especially during my travels in the mountains. It is when I find myself very close to nature that I truly believe in the existence of something so celestial.

Cows of Mullayanagiri. House at the top !
Would you believe that there are actually people living at such high altitudes, without any kind of facility. It cannot be an easy life & must require a very high endurance and a passion for such mountains and atmosphere. It truly was incredible to see an actual house up there !

Flora and fauna of Mullayanagiri ! Greenland of India.
The entire hill was filled with such vibrant wildlife that it compelled me to explore, capture & write about my experiences on this trail. I met a few wonderful people who were as astonished as me to see something so unbelievably grand & vast. The greenlands here were a delight.

Wild and happy canines. Beautiful mountain breeds.
In all of my treks until now I have always come across so many different breeds of dogs and I've realised one thing. The dogs from such hills are so much more peaceful and at place with themselves than in the cities. Wild, free and able to run around, they are truly themselves.

Filter Coffee is real coffee. South Indian Delights.
To go to the south & not drink coffee is a very stupid decision, and I am not stupid. This filter coffee restores every energy & organ in your body with its rich coffee flavours that comes straight from the fields. My absolute favourite thing about South - is its 'filter coffee'.

Almost summit. Pushing myself ahead !
This is what the trek looks like when you're about halfway towards the summit. And that black dog over there looks like real friendship. He not only followed me around but completed the trek with me, all the way to the top. ( And then disappeared :p )

Biker spotted in the mountains. Dangerously hilly !
Another biker spotted ! I will never be able to take such danger with the adventures I do to bring a small bicycle to hike such high altitude peaks. But well, some people are all about the thrill of incredible adventures that are dangerously challenging. Here's an example !

Finally the sun sets on the horizonA beautiful landscape.
As the sun started to descend and come down, and the evening finally started to fall, the peace and serenity of this place, along with its beauty increased like a polished diamond emerging from the skies.

Sunsets and poetry ! Acrylic skies.
There's a special quality to the loneliness of dusk, a melancholy more brooding even than the night's, and the strange thing is that we actually don't want the sun to set, we want it to stay right on the horizon, not below it, not above it, just right on it!

On this trek, I learned much more about myself than I had known & I realised that I have the strength & energy to pursue anything I want to. That endurance, perseverance and passion burns brighter than anything else and if you follow it, you will make it to the summit somehow !
