During our trip to Paris, I was eagerly awaiting the visit to the Louvre Palace. Having read so much about it in history books, I wanted to see this historic structure in real life. What used to be a former royal palace and fortress in the medieval period, is now a museum !

We entered the vast 40 acre complex through what is known as the New Louvre. I tried understanding the orientation of the palace, but it is so huge and made up of so many wings, that I decided to just enjoy the experience of walking through the beautiful architecture!

The famous steel and glass pyramid in the center of the court, was the newest addition to the complex. Designed by famous Chinese architect I.M.Pei, it served as the entrance to a complex of underground office buildings and studio spaces. Pretty cool!

The Renaissance style of building was absolutely beautiful, and I could understand now why the Romans were called master architects. Breathtakingly beautiful details, wonderful craftsmanship and the way that the heritage had been maintained to this day - so commendable!

The oldest part of the fortress that had been built in the medieval times, housed the ancient Egyptian gallery. We walked among underground display spaces looking at mummies, models of pyramids, hieroglyphs and other relics from ancient Egypt. I was awestruck ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Our guide led us through the maze of the museum! Through our individual headphone sets we were able to hear what she was explaining. This was the Galerie d'Apollon whose high vaulted ceiling decorated with paintings were really famous. They were just absolutely gorgeous!

We then came upon one of the most celebrated sculptures in the world - the Winged Victory of Samothrace - a statue of the goddess Nike. This 2nd century marble statue was almost 8 ft tall and we learnt that it is one of the few original Hellenistic statues remaining!

As we walked through the paintings done during the Romantics period, I wished I could have spent days just roaming in the museum, studying each beautiful piece of art in detail. The moment we had been waiting for had arrived! A huge crowd had gathered around Mona Lisa!

We reached the famous Delacroix painting of Liberty Leading the People. Painted during the Romantic period, it commemorates the July Revolution of 1830 in which the king was overthrown. I loved the realistic details in the paintings, and couldn't believe I was seeing an icon!

Ahhh the Mona Lisa! After making my way through the crowd, I finally spotted it, and I actually had a few tears in my eyes! Probably the most celebrated work of art, this Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece is famous all over the world for the puzzling expression of the subject !

Next, we saw the sculpture of Venus de Milo, one of the most famous Greek sculptures, believed to be of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty. It was found on the island of Milos, and this beautiful marble sculpture was one of my favourite pieces of art that I saw ๐Ÿ˜‡

Walking through the gallery of sculptures was an inexplicable experience. To imagine all these amazing details had been carved out for years, from a huge piece of stone, the artist sitting for hours and hours at his piece of art to create such beauty!I couldn't believe my eyes๐Ÿ˜

In the Louvre museum shopping area, we came across the Inverted Pyramid, which is a mirror reflection of the the external glass pyramid and acts as a skylight. A small pyramid whose tip almost touches is placed beneath it ๐Ÿ˜Š

As we finished our tour and headed out, we came across a group of musicians practicing classical music and performing in the courtyard. We listened to the beautiful music for a while before carrying on!

It turns out it isn't unusual for musicians to practice in the courtyard, and we came across another violinist who was serenading visitors with her beautiful songs ๐Ÿ˜

The experience at the Louvre finally came to an end - I could have easily spent another two weeks in that beautiful museum! It had been an honour to see in real life some of the most iconic pieces of art that we know today, and I knew the rest of my trip was going to be great!
