The Lohagad fort, in it's formidable and imposing beauty, was an excellent place for a trek in the monsoons. I had heard that the best time to visit it was during the rainy season, as it makes the surroundings look more fresh, and greener, so it was time to try it out!

It was a short trek, starting from the Malavli station. It took me around 3 or 3 and a half hours to reach the steps of the renowned fort. The environment was lush green, and misty, and the fort looked like a haunted palace shrouded in mystery :P

The 3400 ft. fort has 4 large entrances, Ganesh Darwaja, Narayan Darwaja, Hanuma Darwaja and Maha Darwaja. This one is the Ganesh Darwaja. Surprisingly, the gates are still in good shape and the carvings looked very masterfully done

Several dynasties have had control over the Lohagad Fort, such as Bahamanis, Marathas, Mughals, Yadavas, Chalukyas etc. Shivaji Raje captured it in 1648 CE, surrendered it to the Mughals, then recaptured it in 1670 CE. The architecture reflected its historical significance.

    Be careful while walking up
The mist created a reverse waterfall while it started raining for a little while :P I've always been in love with rains but experiencing it in this environment was mind blowing

The monsoon refilled the ponds and water cisterns in the fort, and replenished the natural beauty around it.

On the west side of the fort is its most famous point called Vinchu Kata (Scorpion's tail). The narrow stretch of fortified brilliance looked heavenly in that atmosphere. With its deep cliff, trekking to that point was sort of a mini-adventure!

From the top of the fort, I could also see the beautiful Pavana lake! Afterwards, the mist surrounded the hill and the clouds touched the mighty fort.

From the walk to the architecture, and the nature, I loved everything about my trip there. Revelling in that awesome setting was the perfect way to spend my day. Next up in Maharashtra, the Sudhagad fort!
