    A visual treat!
Lepakshi is a temple situated 120km from Bengaluru. It's the perfect place if you're itching for a road trip with friends or family!

    Leave early morning or evening!
My friends and I were all itching to go somewhere where we could leave by 9 and get back by 4, as some of us had to catch the college bus back home. We left at about 9:30 and since our college flanks NH7, we didn't waste our time in traffic.

The journey to Lepakshi is about 90mins. With the NH7 being your companion throughout! If you leave early, you get breakfast joints throughout the way! We reached Lepakshi at 11am, and immediately we're awestruck by the beauty of the place! Its a treat to the eyes!

To get to the temple, we had to climb about 50 stairs, after which the entrance is flanked by lush green gardens on either side. I was very impressed by how well maintained the temple was. We tried going around the temple through the garden, but there was no path.

    Beauty of Vijayanagara kingdom!
There are three doors to the main temple. The first door is a metal one and once we entered and walked around, we found these pillars on a platform. These pillars are very beautifully carved and are all monolithic! Take a minute to observe the carvings!

From the second entrance, it is an enclosed area. What you CANNOT miss are the beautiful organic paintings on the ceiling! Each painting and each stroke tells us a story. But because of the age of the temple, the paintings are slowly etching off. The pillars here are also carved!

The third door is the sactum sanctorum or the Garbha Gudi, where photography is not allowed. In here, we find the deity Veerabhadra. Once we prayed, we came back on to the second ring, where, at the back, are the gigantic statues of Linga and Ganesha.

At the Garbha Gudi, you can ask the priest for the history of the temple, which he will gladly recite in 5 languages! We spent another 30 mins at the gardens in front of the temple and took some more pictures, after which we made our way back to the city.
  • Lepakshi Nandi

Don't have to pay parking fee here!
We made a quick stop at the Nandi statue on our way back. This statue is the largest monolithic Nandi in India! There is a garden and a small pond at this complex where you can spend some time with family and friends!

We had a quick bite to eat at Nandi Upahar, which is at the turn to Nandi Hills. The journey back was another 90 mins and we made it back to college just in time for the buses to leave! Lepakshi is the best place to visit if you and your friends feel like bunking!
