So you're sitting in a cheap bar come restaurant and contemplating with your favorites why you travel so less these days, and BAM! There you go, the next thing you know is, someone's googling the best weekend spots while someone's already booking an outstation ola.

    Sunrise by the river
We decided on Henry's island which is just a few kilometers from Bakkhali. Mainstream and us? Never boy! Never! So after a four hours drive there we were at the Namkhana ferry ghat making our way to Henry's island!
  • Hatania-Doyania River
    Hatania-Doyania River
And there are these times when the journey in itself seems so much more fun than reaching the location itself! These streamer boats were one helluva ride! Oh we also saw our crossing the river on a vessel! I guess we weren't yet tripping and it was pretty much real!

The cycle van rideAsk for one from the ferry ghat
On reaching Namkhana Bus stand we had this crackpot of an idea to ride a van instead of walking all the way to our car! Throughout the ride we were busy balancing our sleepy selves, our luggage and all this while giggling to death! It was truely an experience of a lifetime!

    Don't forget your mosquito repellen
Finally we entered our resort after crossing 2-3 villages and about 3-4 types of transport! And boy it was fun! The moment we entered our curiosities were piqued by the info board which promised us with a fishery, a Beach and mangrove forests! Whoa!

Ask for a cottage near the lakeCarry a torch light
This government tourist lodge was nothing like a lodge to our surprise! It was a huge fishery with about 30-40 lakes for different kinds of fishes and amidst those lakes were our cottages. Then bougemvelias made our cottages look like the stuff from fairy tales or magazines!

    Beware of snakes
This red building was our cottage with a well spaced room and truely a view to cherish! Our rooms were more of windows and less of walls as we joked. But as soon as we opened them on either sides, we were greeted by a stunning view of lakes and a gusto of cool breeze.

    Ask for dishi chickenFresh prawns
After the entire day's journey we were famished! Since it's a fishery we ordered all kinds of prawn and crab dishes we could, and they turned out to be delish! The 'dishi chicken' bred in their farms is all non veg lover's dream come true!

    Henry's Island
After a meal of fishes and chicken fries we set out with our flip flops in search of sand and sea waves. We were lucky that the Beach was closed to our resort and we decided to take a longish walk.
  • Henry's Island Beach

    The Sundari tree mangrove forest
The best part of our walk to the Beach was not the sand laden bridge, but it's sidewalks which were dotted with lush green Mangrove trees! We had no idea that there were any present except for Sundar and and we straightaway took a plunge in the swampy ground! Monkeys reincarnate!

It was the most thrilling walk as we had to walk through the bamboo logs which were widely spaced. One slip, and you're in for a homeroob to the volini spray bottle! Well what's a trip without a bit of risk eh?

    The virgin beach
We finally made it to the beach and I haven't seen a cleaner one in West Bengal at least! The sand was truely as fine as dust gold and we ran our hands through the clean powder.

The boys tossed their shoes up in the air and we walked backwards making all sorts of funny videos and cart wheels on the go. The truth was, I had never been to a Beach which was this deserted! It was like we owned the Beach and there was no one to watch us in our worst!
  • Henry's Island Beach
    Henry's Island Beach
    The foamy beach
It was one of the most peaceful experiences I've had in my entire life and and we swam on splashing water at each other, taking handful of sand and creating our very own snow balls with it!
  • Henry's Island Beach

The best part of the sea being so very calm that we could swim till as far as we wanted to. Well the boards did warn us about breaking shores and sting Ray's, but who can resist the ocean! Specially when Bay of Bengal is this calm! We swam and fooled around for about 2 hours!

Watching sunrise in the fisheriesBook the cottages way ahead
The next morning was all about watching the sunrise from our window ledge as the orange Ray's reflected on the lakes and bathed us in serenity. It was time for us to return back, but we had a snapsack full of memories to back us up!
