A city as old as human civilization
An ancient city nestled at the banks of River Ganga in Uttar Pradesh, Varanasi is that one place every Indian is aware of. It is also popularly known as Banaras or Kashi. I happened to visit this place for the first time with my parents recently and trust me its worth it!

Varanasi is full of guesthouses and accommodation. After arriving in Varanasi late at night, we took a cab and asked to be brought to an accommodation near Assi Ghat and we settled for Elvis with a spacious and air-conditioned room.

    Exploring the ghats :)
Our first full day at Banaras started pretty early with Raag Bhairav at the Assi ghat. While my parents visited the temples around, i decided to go on a solo exploration in & around the ghats. Here are a few things that i discovered.

    Bathing in River Ganges 🙏
Varanasi is said to have more than 84 ghats, each with stairs leading to the waters. The waters of Ganges River are believed to be blessed & offer salvation to everyone who bathes in it. Pilgrims from all over the world come here, take a dip in the water to absolve their sins.

    The architecture ❤
After looking around and witnessing a panoramic view of city on a boat ride, I decided to join my parents who were visiting the temples. The temples of Varanasi are believed to offer a direct rendezvous with gods and one could find a temple in every nook and corner of the city.

The evening arti is one of the most awaited part for anybody visiting Varanasi. This Evening Aarti Ceremony at Ganges River is undoubtedly a sight to cherish. The Chants, lamps, aromas of flowers and incense creating a heavenly blessing. One should really experience this to know.

    A holy Buddhist site ☺
On day 2 and our last day here, we visited Sarnath which is located at just 12 km from the city of Varanasi. Sarnath is popular holy site. This is where Gautama Buddha first taught the Dharma after his enlightenment.

    Impressive architecture
Having faced destruction at the hands of Turks, Sarnath has some fascinating ruins to explore. The Archeological museum of Sarnath is worth exploring.

    Banarasi silk ❤
Back in Banaras, a city widely famous for its silk saris and jewels, we visited the local market to carry home some memories. The plethora of colours, intricate pattern and designs just left me spellbound. My mum just couldn't resist shopping for her saris.

☝love this man and his humbleness ❤
The Ghats along the River Ganga is the most charming sight in the city. Since it was my last night here, I just decided to spend all of it along the Ghats at sunset hours and then went on one last boat ride before i leave.

    The crowd and diversity 👼
Arriving at Varanasi can be a little overwhelming. You will be greeted by chaos, colour and the feeling of stepping back in time. But Varanasi is truly a city dripping with history and spirituality that one should definitely explore.
