You know which are the best kind of travels? The no-itinerary ones! While it might appear intimidating and stupid to shell out your money and reach somewhere absolutely clueless. But take this gamble and you will witness some real fun.

I did something similar with Bhopal. I was to travel to this place for one of my interviews. So as usual, I was about to foray. With my internet there I was yet again to plan an itinerary as accurate as possible. Only that I thought what if I don't make one this time.

Since I wasn't travelling overseas and the company had already booked our accommodation so I wasn't putting much on stake. So I decided to put to test my random exploration plan with Bhopal. And honestly, this felt more like a holiday and less like a school trip!
  • Taj Ul Masajid
    Taj Ul Masajid
And there I had before me, the largest mosque in Asia and a total architectural wonder. I stood they gazing at this beauty as I couldn't get enough of it. Isn't there something magnificent about the Mughal architectures?
  • Taj Ul Masajid
    Taj Ul Masajid
Taj-ul-Masjid, a mosque, a study centre, a place full of solitude! Reaching here was kind of a task since the mosque was located in the market. The entrance was through a large gateway and after that was a large campus, a huge mosque and its mighty standing 18-storey minarets.

    Taj Ul Masajid
Unfortunately, I reached the place around 5 pm and the prayers were over by then. Nonetheless, the beauty of the mosque was enough to get us captivated. The manicured laws, the marble pillars, the intricate Mughal architecture. What an enthralling site it was!

Covering almost half of the city, Badi jheel lake Bhopal was my next venture. The lake was ginormous at the same time very tranquil and quiet. Watching the sun go down at this Bada Talaab was one liberating experience. No wonder people come here to watch sunsets.

The lake had boating facility and other activities available too. I think it will form a perfect picnic spot for families with young children. I saw large groups going for cruise ride as well which seemed kinda fun. For me, I just decided to enjoy the weather and the landscape.

Well I this venture wasn't purely random. We did have to travel some distance for this. However, while interacting with local people in Bhopal, this was the place that seemed to have maximum references after the lakes.
  • Sanchi Stupa
    Sanchi Stupa
Located in Sachi at about an hour's distance from Bhopal, the Buddhist monuments were worth the hassle. Just kidding! I absolutely enjoyed the drive till here, rather it did add much weight to my love for this exquisite and calm place.
  • Sanchi Stupa
    Sanchi Stupa
A place depicting Buddhist history, culture and architecture. If you are somebody who likes these calm Buddhist places, then you must not leave Bhopal without visiting this one. Once at the hilltop I could imagine the peace and solitude that would have led Ashoka to choose it.
  • Tropic of Cancer
    Tropic of Cancer
During my school days, I had marked Bhopal multiple times as one of the places from where the tropic of cancer passes. And being in the city, I wanted to see the place in person too.
  • Tropic of Cancer
    Tropic of Cancer
Since the place was situated on Bhopal Sanchi highway so we did decide to halt here. However, to my disappointment, the place didn't have much. It imaginary line of the Tropic of cancer was marked in yellow and actually nothing more.

Is any local exploration every complete unless you have relished the local delicacies. And which fool would want to leave Bhopal without having the jalebis there. Not me for sure! *Heaven in my mouth*
  • Shaurya Smarak
    Shaurya Smarak
Depicting various aspects of war and life achievements of a soldier, the Shaurya Smarak was an amazing place. The Sthal was laid out impeccably and very green atmosphere demonstrating the valour and sacrifices by the men in uniforms.

The entry ticket was 10 INR and there were additional charges of 50 INR for cameras. The place was spread in over 5 acres of land. There was an underground museum of war pictures and history of military forces. Recently inaugurated, the place truly has added to the city' glory.
  • Van Vihar National Park
    Van Vihar National Park
More of zoo rather than a National Park, the place was not quite an adventure spot. The Van Vihar National park had a 10 km driveway which one can cover by their own vehicle. The area was huge and the overall maintenance was good too.

The animal visibility was amazing, however, the disappointing part was that most of them were caged and that took away most of the fun. Nonetheless, the place is worth a visit. Also the fact that it is located in Bhopal city, makes another reason for you to not miss this out.

So with this, I had to end my Bhopal exploration since the days of free accommodation were over. However, I thoroughly enjoyed exploring random places with even random plans. Bhopal was a true gamut of amusement that left no reason for me to not love it. ~ Until next time ~
