    Impromptu trip 🚂
After a wonderful weekend at Varanasi(with my parents), we made an impromptu decision of taking an overnight train from Varanasi to Agra. My parents can be a little crazy at times and there we were at Agra, after a 13 hrs train journey.

Do not litter the town guy!🚮
We came to Agra for the same reason everyone else does, to see the Taj Mahal – the one attraction that sits at the top of every visitor’s list. Agra is a loud, crowded town filled with people - locals and tourists.

    Exploring the local markets. ☝
We gave ourselves two full days in Agra (we later learned that most people only stay a night here!), and fortunately for us, that meant we got to see and do quite a bit around the city.

Loved everything about this place ❤
Our stay at the Oberoi Amarvilas was one of the highlights of this trip. If you have enough budget & time to do so, book a stay here. One can see the Taj from the your hotel window just like so many royals have! Imagine how your mornings would be, waking up to the beauty of Taj.

    The history behind...
We started our exploration with the very famous Agra Fort, which was the main residence of the Mughal emperors before they moved to the Red Fort in Delhi. If you've been there, you could spot some cool similarities between the two structures.

    The architecture 😱
Like the Red Fort in Delhi, Agra Fort is also a walled city and inside the enclosure you'll find gardens, palaces, mosques. Basically a maze of marble and red sandstone. If you’re a sucker for history, do hire a guide for your tour through the fort. There are plenty of available.

How beautiful is this place ❤
However we decided to enjoy the place on our own. I was stunned how the interiors of the fort were way impressive than the exteriors. Also the fort is located just 2.5 kilometres from the Taj, one can get some pretty cool views of it as well!
  • Mehtab Bagh
    Mehtab Bagh
    Also called the Moonlight Garden🌙
After a long tour of the Agra Fort, we visited the Mehtab Bagh for sunset. It's yet another place you should definitely make time for, when in Agra. These gardens offer a quiet respite from Agra’s busy streets and are located right behind the Taj Mahal, offering an amazing view.

    Postcard perfect view 📷
This location is really popular at sunset, and couples, families, and tourists were already starting to gather across the lawn long before the sun went down.

    Waking up to this! ☝
Day 2 at Agra started with this amazing ghoomar(an Indian dance form). It was our last full day here and finally the day we visit the Taj itself.

    Stunning views ❤
One of the biggest surprises in Agra was the Taj Walk, also known as the Taj Protected Forest, located just before reaching the East Gate. It is a mix of paved paths and dirt trails, where you can spot peacocks & buffalos roaming wild, and also get the best views of The Taj!
  • Taj Mahal

Saving the best for the end! 😍
And finally seeing the Taj Mahal up close! What could I possibly say about the Taj Mahal that hasn’t already been said before? The structure is striking from the minute you first set eyes on it. We made our way there at 9:00 a.m. without any rush through the East gates.

Dedicate atleast 3 hrs for Taj ❤
We spent the entire time walking along the complex, gawking at the building’s beauty from every angle, and taking a gazillion pictures because you never know when you’re going to be back!

Opt for a guided tour ✔
It’s pointless to see the Taj Mahal without first knowing the story of Shah Jahan, its creator. This story of eternal love is what gives heart and soul to the shimmering marble of this monument.” So said our tour guide. A tour guide here was the wisest decision i made.

    The patterns! ❤
Our tour guide’s account of the creator of Taj Mahal was certainly not a happy story & made me look at it in a totally different light, but the grandeur of the Taj is something to behold. It has to be seen to be believed. The intricate design and patterns just blows away minds!

    The Mughal architecture 🙌
After this dose of history, we proceeded inside, exploring the Mughal architecture. Of all the Mughal monuments i have seen, Taj offers an epitome of masterful craftsmanship. The circular roof of the dome with interlocking designs was simply mesmerizing.

    The calligraphy inside 🙌
Suffice to say that this beautiful piece of architecture is incomparable. No wonder it was declared in the New Seven Wonders of the World. We almost spent an entire day inside the Taj Mahal and yet couldn't get over it.

    Witnessing the gorgeous sunset 🌆
That's the end of our wonderful trip to Agra. Back at our hotel, we have our last dinner and boarded the overnight train to Delhi. We were to catch a flight next afternoon to Bangalore. Until next time, Ciao!
